BLUE GRASS CHEMICAL ACTIVITY, RICHMOND, Ky. – Inspectors from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons conducted a routine stockpile verification inspection Sept. 28 – Oct. 2 at the Blue Grass Chemical Activity.
The team’s mission was to account for every chemical weapon in storage at the Blue Grass Army Depot to verify U.S. compliance with the Chemical Weapons Convention. The treaty, which has been signed by 193 nation-states, requires destruction of all chemical weapons and former production facilities. It also requires signatories to halt the development, use, production and acquisition of chemical weapons. The U.S. signed the treaty in 1997.
Compliance with the Chemical Weapons Convention is another facet of the safe and secure storage mission at BGCA.
