The U.S. Army Chemical Materials Activity (CMA) Recovered Chemical Materiel Directorate (RCMD) has completed several chemical demilitarization operations at Pine Bluff Arsenal (PBA), Ark., including the destruction of the largest declared recovered chemical warfare materiel (RCWM) inventory to date and the decontamination more than 4,300 ton containers (TCs).
During recent environmental restoration efforts at PBA, workers recovered more than 7,100 Chemical Agent Identification Sets (CAIS) K-941 bottles (as of 11 October 2018) and five chemical-filled munitions.
RCMD has completed assessment of the recovered items and is returning to PBA to carry out destruction operations, tentatively scheduled to begin the second week of December 2018. RCMD has deployed the Explosive Destruction System (EDS) to neutralize CAIS items and chemical-filled munitions.
